Madame Cocoa

A few weeks ago, I met a very special lady who happens to live at the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, NC.
Her name is Madame Cocoa and she is a life-sized figure made completely out of chocolate, including her body and accessories.

She was created by the Ritz-Carlton's Pastry Chef, Josh Cain.  It took him 95 hours of work and 75 lbs of chocolate to create this lovely lady.  This was his first full-figure project and to achieve a life-like effect, he bought a mannequin, shoes, and a handbag and then proceeded to cut these items in half and fill the cavity with chocolate to create the perfect mould.

Love/Light

I find Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and work to be fascinating and relevant.  This is one of my favourite quotes of his.

Hicks & Wilde

I stopped by the Mint Museum Uptown the other day and took in the Sheila Hicks: 50 Years exhibit.  I thought it was very interesting, and whilst reading her method of building forms from lines of colour, I found her selection process to be relevant and applicable not only in artistic terms, but also for life in general.
This is what she says:
"Usually to know yourself you have to go against yourself.  Lay down a colour notion, and then choose another.  Then stop and reconsider.  Then choose something furthest away from what you just chose.  This sounds kind of indirect, but it is the most direct path I know to not fall into repetitive patterns."
Oscar Wilde once said, "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life."  I believe this is a true reflection of this theory.

Lunch @ Aria

Yesterday I had antipasti and tea with friends at Aria Tuscan Grill in uptown Charlotte.  I definitely recommend this place for lunch.  Besides the exceptional food and service, the space itself gives off a cool vibe and a fresh scent that I normally associate with yoga studios.  Good combination.

Odd Bird

During my exploration, I stumbled across a collection of lonely ice sculptures slowly melting in a side street.

Relaxing

The first day in a new city usually involves laundry, grocery shopping, and exploring our new environment :)
Vegetable pasta, green tea, and lemon bar from Dean & Deluca

New Home

Just arrived in Charlotte, North Carolina, our home for the week.  I'm looking forward to exploring the city tomorrow :)
